About
I’m Joe Hutchinson, an ML platform engineer at Blue River Technology, where I work on the data platform used by our robotics teams.
Before Blue River, I was at John Deere, where I built evals for computer vision products and owned our Foxglove robotics data visualization tool. Along the way I’ve also worked on self-driving fairway mowers. I studied electrical engineering at Penn State and NC State, where my master’s work focused on computer vision and machine learning.
I spend a lot of time reading and thinking about where technology is headed, and I’m hopeful and cautious in roughly equal measure. Data and computation will shape much of what comes next, and the systems we build may eventually outgrow our understanding of them. I don’t know how that plays out. What I can do is careful work on the small part of it within my reach.
I’m also interested in consciousness, the nature of the self, and meditation. The past is a memory, the future is a thought, and the present is the only place to actually live. I try to keep that in mind so I can be more available for the people I love.
This site is a creative outlet and a place to think out loud. You can find more of my projects on GitHub.
